PUBLISH YOUR FAMILY TREE DATA

Genealogy researchers follow many principles, including:

Always verify and document your sources.

You will never know everything possible about your family tree.

Share the data that you have with other researchers.

If you have collected and documented some of your family tree data that you are ready to share with other family members and as well as with other genealogy researchers around the world, the World Wide Web is the best mechanism.  There are several logical steps you need to follow:

1.  Put your data into some computer format.  That is done best with specialized software.

2.  Decide what you want your data to look like on a web site.  Visit several web sites for ideas.

Click here to visit a web site we created.  It will open in a separate window.  Notice the variety of styles used.  There are traditional listings of generations for each family.  There is a short narrative describing the history of each family.  There is a customized combined family tree for all six families.  There are pictures of ancestors.  There are links to several reference maps.  For the Allen family, there is a lengthy Power Point presentation that was used at a reunion.

3.  Decide where you want to publish your family tree data and how much you want to pay.

There are many domains from which to choose, each with a wide range of features and prices.

4.  Fit the data into the design you have chosen and publish it to your web domain.

If you would like assistance with any of the above steps, we can help!
